TESTIMONIAL FOR MASTER SWIFT
My 8 year old son was affected badly by bullying at school, which caused him to have a complete lack of confidence and low self-esteem.
We thought introducing him to martial arts might help him, but we realised we would need 1 to 1 training as he wouldn’t be able to handle enrolling in a class, due to the effect the bullying had on him.
Master John Swift was able to engage very well with him from his very first 1 to 1 session, identifying instinctively from his years of experience of instructing how best to motivate him. From the first session he was able to channel my son’s energy positively and press the right buttons to gain his focus and attention.
The 1 to 1 sessions enabled my son to build his confidence enough to then enrol into a Verve family beginner’s class, but we still continued with the 1 to 1 sessions as he enjoyed them so much and thrived in them. They have helped enormously with his progress in Taekwondo. My son will now be progressing to the intermediate/advanced family class once he achieves his next belt.
Being a 50 year old father with a bright energetic 8 year old son can be quite exhausting, so I came to realise I had 2 choices, do nothing and carry on feeling older or do something to start feeling healthy and young. So after speaking to Master John Swift at my son’s 1 to 1, I decided to give his Verve family beginner’s class a go. I did have some reservations starting at my age and having not done any real exercise for 25 years other than walking the dog, plus suffering from lower back ache and stiffness.
I found the beginner’s classes to be very welcoming and really good fun and varied, catering for all levels of age and fitness. What has impressed me most is the courtesy, family values and friendly atmosphere at these classes. Egos simply don’t exist in this particular club and I find the more advanced the student, the more unassuming and helpful they tend to be. I discovered most of the adults were in the class because they had first enrolled their children like me.
I started the beginner’s class 10 months ago. At first I only managed once a week but due to my increased fitness levels gained from the classes I have recently progressed to attend 2-3 times a week.
I am now more supple than ever, enjoying far less stiffness in my lower back. This is thanks to some of the stretches Master Swift has suggested. In fact, in one class he went as far as to change the warm up to accommodate lower back stretches, when I first mentioned I had the problem.
I find gyms intimidating, but these classes are not only great for exercising the body but also the mind. For me it’s better than any meditation and it’s by far the best way to forget all your worries and de-stress.
I have to admit I have now developed an insatiable appetite to attend Master Swift’s classes, physically and mentally I have never felt better and it just keeps improving from each class.
Ultimately with the in-depth wisdom, knowledge and passion for teaching Taekwondo that comes from Master Swift, you just can’t fail to be inspired.
My son is now keen to improve his sparring, so Master Swift suggested he attends a weekly tournament training session (Mash-Up). To witness the ability these youngsters and adults have in competing at national level in tournaments is astonishing to see. This is testimony to Master Swift and Instructor Adam Stanton’s extensive knowledge and experience in tournament training.
But what has really impressed me most, is how these students have accommodated my novice 8 year old son in this class and been so friendly to him. It is admirable how each one of them takes the time to spar with my son, coach and encourage him, when after all, the purpose of them being there is to do high level competitive training. This really does best demonstrate the family ethos which underpins Master Swift’s clubs.
