Author: John Swift
Qualified Level 1 KAPAP Instructor
Congratulations to Mr Swift and all the candidates that completed the recent KAPAP instructor course held at VERVE Bromsgrove.
KAPAP is the martial art of the Israeli special forces; specifically the military unit Sayeret Matkal, and the counter-terror police unit named Yamam. So as far as a martial arts with practical application, it is being tested in the field and updated on a daily basis!
So as you’d expect the super intense 5-day course was as tough as it comes covering various punishing physical test elements as well as technical drills including stand-up self-defence protocol, knife defence, gun defence, ground work, control / arrest and various hostage control techniques.
Thank you to lead instructor Amit Himelstein all the way from Israel for the instruction , guidance and friendship as well as organiser Martin Brown for his continued support!
VERVE Taekwondo APP to be released in May 2014
There are some exciting developments within our groups and as many will be aware, with the success of Mr Swifts 6th degree thesis (what is now many students training handbook :-)) our friend Ray Gillespie of Modus Digital Ltd has helped put together a VERVE Taekwondo APP for iOS & Android users!
It looks fantastic and will to be on-sale May 2014!
Qualified KEWAP Instructor
Mr Swift and industry colleagues travelled to Milton Keynes to take part in the instructor course for ‘Knives & Edged Weapons Awareness Programme’ (KEWAP) led by one of the UK’s leading authorities on the subject Mr Steven Timperley.
Successfully completing the course along with a number of other like-minded martial artists, we are pleased to say Mr Swift will be looking to add a couple of seminar dates to our events calender on the self-defence element of knife awareness as well as add a module to our Tactical Combat course scheduled for August 2014.
Congrats all!

2008 MAI Interview
On searching through our archive of photos, articles and blogs we found this!

This is one of the first magazine interviews for John Swift, it was in UK’s Martial Arts Illustrated in 2008!
Some nice high kicking images and a youthfully looking Mr Swift!

Developing ‘POWER’ Blog
Interested in exploring the ‘Principles of Power’ … here is a link to a blog written for Combat martial arts magazine a couple of years ago but definitely still worth a read!

John Swift Developing POWER blog ‘snippet’
There are fewer personal and physical components that are revered more than that of POWER. It is well documented that few of us ever reach our full technical and physical potential and some suggest that the average person uses only 10 to 20 percent of their true ‘power’ potential – the martial arts can provide an opportunity to unlock this potential.
